Kody Kopp
Already a two-time Parts Unlimited AFT Singles champion, Red Bull KTM’s teenage sensation Kody Kopp has long since transformed his impressive lineage as the son of 2000 Grand National Champion Joe Kopp into a secondary note rather than his primary claim to fame.
The latest in a long line of flat trackers hailing from the Northwest, the Washington native first started riding when he was just three-and-a-half and was racing a few months after that.
Following a spectacular amateur career that culminated in the 2020 Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award, Kopp’s ascension to the professional ranks was anticipated in a manner reserved for only the sport’s most highly rated prospects.
Kopp proved he was fully deserving of that considerable hype during his rookie campaign, notching up a trio of second-half podium finishes, while also demonstrating his innate skills with a physics-defying save of a near-crash in Peoria.
But as impressive as his rookie season was, it proved to be but a tease when Kopp arrived as a genuine power in 2022. He secured the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles title two rounds early with a dominant seven-win, ten-podium campaign that left the remainder of the field battling over second.
And even with the target of the #1 plate squarely in his opponents’ sights, Kopp not only repeated the feat in ‘23, he improved upon his prior campaign with a record-equaling eight-victory season to become just the second rider to claim back-to-back Parts Unlimited AFT Singles championships.
Kopp is now in position to completely rewrite the class’ record books and become its first-ever three-time champion.
